Our owners
Maurice Hulscher
President and Founder
Maurice was born and raised in Cape Town, South Africa, and moved to Vancouver in 1978. He earned a BBA from Simon Fraser University and soon embraced the opportunity to build a life through hard work. He joined College Pro Painters, spending nine rewarding years with the company. After that, he founded Alumni Painters & Restorations, building a business rooted in family values and community trust. Maurice has been happily married for 41 years and has three grown children – two of whom work in the family business – and four young grandchildren. An avid mountain biker, he hits the North Shore trails three times a week, rain or shine. Maurice is usually hard at work in the office, with his family’s faithful and loyal companion, Rafa, keeping him company.
Beau Henderson
Vice President
Beau comes from a family with deep roots in Vancouver’s paint industry. His grandfather ran a paint factory on Southwest Marine Drive and a store on Main and 10th in Vancouver, employing both Beau’s father, Richard, and uncle, Beau Sr. Beau began painting in high school as a summer job, and it grew into a career. He met Maurice in 1979 through soccer, and in 1986, Maurice asked him to take on high-rise painting work. That eventually evolved into building envelope repair. Outside of work, Beau is a professional drummer in a band called “Johnny & the Walkers”. He also enjoys skiing and cycling with his wife and daughter, vacationing together in Maui, and managing his mean cat, Stella.
Elijah Hartwig
Principal
Elijah started in the painting industry in the summer of 1997 joining Alumni as a young helper. Over the next few summers, he quickly learned the ins and outs of running a crew to produce jobs from single-family home re-paints to larger-scale strata complexes. Elijah has continued to grow his skill sets, both in the hands-on practical aspects of the businesses as well as the systems and structures of running the company. When not busy engaging with all things Alumni, Elijah and his wife, Chelsey, are kept busy raising their three children and getting outdoors as much as possible. Elijah also coaches multiple youth sports teams in the Langley community. And let’s not forget about Arthur… the loyal pup who loves spending time with his family whether it’s out hiking, camping or snuggling on the couch.
George Barr
Principal
At a young age, George started his career by launching a home services business in Kelowna. He completed a Bachelor of Commerce in Entrepreneurial Management from Royal Roads University and later earned an MBA in International Business from Simon Fraser University. George worked as a senior sales/project manager in the commercial painting industry for ten years before joining Alumni in 2020 and becoming a principal in 2021. Outside of work, George is the proud father of a son who is a SAR Tech in the Canadian Armed Forces Search & Rescue, and of 2 young children with his beautiful wife, Dana.
